Mathew A Coulliette

Hi, I am Mathew Coulliette, and I was born and raised in Mesa, AZ.

When I got out of High School I went to work for the family electrical business. I started at the bottom of the company as a helper, then I became an electrician, next they made me a leadman, and eventually Vice President. I had to leave the business for health reasons.

For my next major job I asked my Dad if I could work for him. He owned Pleasant Valley Airport and Turf Soaring School. So he hired me as a line boy, and I started giving glider rides as soon as I got my Commercial Glider License. After I got my Instructor Rating for gliders, I started teaching people to fly. At first it was basic flying instruction, but before long I was giving Aerobatic lessons. After about 10 months of working for Roy he made me Assistant Airport Manager. Again, I had to leave for health reasons.

Around 2002 I got AutoCAD certified and started a CAD department for Golka Electric which took a little over a year and then I left. I worked a couple of retail jobs, before being hired by TOR Engineering as a CAD drafter. (That was a great job.) After a little over a year my boss made me an associate designer, and later he gave me my own sub-department under him, which was a really big deal, but unfortunately I had to quit shortly after that due to health reasons.

I have had many hobbies including flying gliders, airplanes, and helicopters. Other hobbies include horse back riding, motorcycles, sailing, scuba diving, juggling, GNU/Linux, building computers, photography, and videography.

In 2013, I bought a DSLR and started studying photography with the plan of creating a photography business. My first DSLR could shoot High Definition Video, and so while I was learning photography, I also took the time to learn video!  In 2019, I switched from a Nikon DSLR to a Sony Mirrorless camera, this was because the Sony was just as good at video as it was at capturing a still image.

Now, because of how I light, I consider myself to be a Cinematographer. I use large continuous lights, pushed through large sheets of diffusion to soften the light. My studio resembles a small HollyWood set, and I can use this lighting for both pictures and video content.
