GNU/Linux

I spent 10 years building computers as a hobby and installing GNU/Linux on them. At my peak I had a dozen computers running at the same time with 0-3 monitors per computer. Every week I would download a new distrobution and try it out.

This is a GNU. It is the mascot of the GNU Operating System made by the free software foundation. When GNU/Linux was founded it had everything except for the kernel.

GNU is a recursive acronym for "GNU's Not Unix!"

Debian is one of my favorite distrobutions. It is one of the largest, oldest, and purest distrobutions. Debian was named after it's creator "Ian" & his wife "Debbie".

KDE was my favorite Linux desktop. It was named after a popular Unix desktop CDE. CDE stands for "Common Desktop Environment".

Ubuntu is a quality that includes the essential human virtues; compassion & humanity. The Ubuntu Distro has become very popular and is based on Debian.

This is Kubuntu. It is built by combining Ubuntu with the KDE Desktop Environment. It is currently my favorite distrobution and one I feel good about recommending.

Tux is the mascot for the Linux kernel created by Linus Torvalds, the principal developer of it. He named the kernel, "Linux", and since the GNU OS needed a working kernel, they put the 2 halves together and had a complete operating system: GNU/Linux.
